Delete your SwipelyNews account and data
Effective date: 8 October 2026 (2026-10-08) · Last updated: 8 October 2026
This page is for the SwipelyNews app (iOS and Android) by SwipelyNews (see Who runs SwipelyNews). You can delete your account, or your guest data if you never created an account, at any time. It's free, and it takes effect right away.
Option 1: in the App (fastest)
- Open SwipelyNews and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap the settings gear (top right).
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account (if you have an account) or Delete my data (if you never signed in and use the App as a guest).
- Check what will be deleted, and confirm.
- If you signed in with Apple, you'll be asked to confirm with Apple, so we can also revoke SwipelyNews's access to your Apple ID.
- Done. You'll see a confirmation, and the App returns to the welcome screen.
Option 2: by email (no need to reinstall the App)
- If you have an account: email support@swipelynews.com (subject: "Privacy request") from the email address of your account, with the subject "Delete my account". To protect you, we may send a confirmation code to that address before we delete anything. We'll confirm when it's done, within 30 days at the latest (usually much sooner).
- If you're a guest: guest data isn't linked to any email address, so we can only find it with your guest ID.
- Use Settings › Support › Report a problem in the App, which includes your ID; or
- email us your guest ID if you have it.
- Otherwise, guest data is deleted automatically after 13 months without activity.
- If you already uninstalled the App as a guest, we have no way to identify your data (it isn't linked to your name or email), so we can't find it on request. It's erased automatically 13 months after your last use.
What gets deleted
Deletion starts immediately and removes:
- your account: email address, any linked alias address, the record that you passed the 18+ check, language, and your sign-in record (Google, Apple or email code);
- your saved stories and reactions (also removed from the public counts);
- your reports, and your topic, country and outlet preferences;
- your devices and notification tokens, and your notification history;
- your Terms acceptance history and your consent history (marketing email and Do Not Sell or Share choices);
- your personalisation data: the stories you've been shown and your interest scores;
- any data-export files that are still waiting to be downloaded.
The App also clears the data stored on your phone, including saved settings, recent searches and privacy choices.
What we keep, and why
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| An empty account record (no email, activity or preferences) | So the deletion completes safely, and the same session can't recreate the account | Purged after 30 days |
| A hashed device identifier and the date your free reading period started | Prevents the free period being restarted by deleting data or reinstalling | 12 months from when it was set |
| An age-block date for the device (only if the age check showed the user was under 18) | Keeps the App locked until the user turns 18 | Until that date |
| A pseudonymised record of which Terms and Privacy Policy versions were accepted, and when (a keyed hash of the user ID; no email or device ID) | Proof of the agreement if there's a legal claim | 3 years |
| Encrypted database backups | Disaster recovery | Deleted data disappears as backups rotate, within 14 days |
| Crash reports (if you shared them) | They aren't linked to your account, so they can't be found and deleted individually | Up to 90 days |
| Copyright or legal notices you sent, and your emails with us | Legal records; your correspondence | See the Privacy Policy |
Data held by others:
- Google AdMob, which shows the rewarded videos, controls its own advertising data. See Google's privacy controls and reset your device's advertising ID.
- Apple and Google sign-in: you can also remove SwipelyNews from your Apple ID or Google Account settings.
Good to know
- You can't undo a deletion. If you come back, you'll start with a new guest profile.
- Your free reading time belongs to your phone. Deleting your data doesn't restart it.
- Download your data first if you want a copy: Settings › Privacy › Download my data.
- Uninstalling the App doesn't delete your data. Use the steps above.
